REMINDER: a recent feature has been added to Regionals.  If a pair of students wins an event (1st place), but belongs to a team that did not qualify for States, that pair of students (plus an adult chaperone) will be invited to States to compete in their event, for a chance to medal at States as well!  So hardworking students on small teams have a chance for some personal success!
Grading, scores, and awards:
this information is now on its own page (see menu above under "MORE....")

Some important things to know:
1.  Wayne State is a public university - buildings are open to visitors during the day, plus they will be hosting an open house the weekend of the tournament : do not leave valuables unattended in homerooms.  We recommend each team have a homeroom parent to remain in the room at all times.
2.  Teams will need to clean up their homerooms and vacate them by 3:45 PM.  All trash must be collected into the provided bags which may be left just outside the room when clean-up is done.  The awards auditorium and adjacent lounge will be available to teams at that time.
3.  Wayne State will be offering a variety of tours and activities in the afternoon before the awards ceremony.  For example: Chemistry in the Movies presentation will be at 3:30 and 4:30.  Planetarium shows are likely to be cancelled due to technical issues.  There will also be campus and lab tours offered.  We encourage you to check them out!
4.  At the awards ceremony (held at 100 General Lectures; 5045 Anthony Wayne Drive) the center rows for students and the head coach will be labelled by team.  Please sit in your assigned row(s).  Parents and volunteers may sit anywhere in the side wings of seats.
5.
Public Safety phone number is (313)577-2222.  This is the equivalent of 911 on campus.
Parking on Campus: use the garage at 61 Putnam Street
Parents may enter through the first two driveways of the parking area - a credit card is needed to enter/exit; you will be charged a flat rate of $8.50 for the day (if you exit and re-enter you will be charged again).
Event Supervisors may enter the third driveway of the parking area, reserved for visitors.  Take the green ticket and bring it to tournament headquarters to be validated.
Region 8 Trial Event Rules
There will be no Trial events run at this year's tournament

Rule Clarifications

the Region 8 tournament Forestry event, for both Div B and Div C, will stick to the Michigan State Tree List available at miscioly.org

National Rules Clarifications - click to go; there are quite a few, mostly regarding building events, many regarding design logs
National Official FAQ - click to go
Region 8 Event Clarifications (none yet)

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT FLIGHT EVENT: It appears as if some of the planes built from kits need to be slightly bent in order to fit into the required box dimensions. Under the Construction Parameters 3.d. “The aircraft in its flight configuration and during the flight must fit into a team-provided rectangular box”. 3.f. “Flight Configuration means the aircraft is fully assembled and ready to fly. For example, no change in chord, span, length, or total lifting area (as verified by returning aircraft to box after flying) can occur after removing the aircraft from its box and throughout the flight itself. Rotating components such as propellers or rotors may be rotated to allow the aircraft to fit into the box.” If the plane span is slightly bent in order to get it into the box and then it expands to its full length when removed, this is a construction violation. The plane should slide in and out of the box without any need to “bend” any part of the plane.
